Hu Kitchen Developed Their Own Unique Blend Of Chocolate That Was Gluten-Free (Image Source: Shutterstock)

In 2012, Hu Kitchen opened in Greenwich Village, New York. This full paleo restaurant was created to help people “get back to human” by offering a range of foods that were free of weird, industrial ingredients in favor of simple, healthy ones. Their philosophy was the more unadulterated the product was, the better. As a result, they obsessively vet every ingredient to get the perfect blend of unbeatable taste and unmatched simplicity.

The guys at Hu Kitchen developed their own unique blend of chocolate that was gluten free, vegan, and extremely easy to bake with. The restaurant and the chocolate both became huge hits.

Hu chocolate was soon being sold all over New York and then nationwide. In 2019, the Hu snack range expanded with the introduction of Hunks, Gems, and their first savory product, Grain Free Crackers.

The Hu Kitchen Product Range

The Hu Product range is divided into three categories:

  • Cookies
  • Chocolate
  • Snacks

Cookies

Hu Grain-Free cookies are available in four flavors: Chocolate Chip, Snickerdoodle, Peanut Butter, and Ginger Snap. Each of them, except the Peanut Butter cookies, are certified paleo, the highest designation given by the Paleo Foundation. They are both gluten and grain-free.

What is Gluten Free?

A gluten free product is one that does not contain the protein gluten. Gluten is responsible for the elasticity of dough and acts as a type of glue to hold the ingredients together. Consuming gluten can cause damage to the small intestine, resulting in a range of health problems, including bloating, gas, diarrhea, fatigue, and weight loss.

A product that is gluten free does not have any gluten protein in it. This is distinct from it being grain free, which means that there are no grains whatsoever in the product. All Hu products are both gluten and grain free.

Healthy Chocolate

The development of a delicious chocolate that is actually good for you is at the heart of Hu Kitchen’s success. Their chocolate bar is, not surprisingly, their biggest seller. It comes in a total of fifteen great flavors, including salty, hazelnut butter, and almond crunch.

No Dairy Products Mean Certified Vegan (Image Source: Shutterstock)

None of Hu’s dark chocolate bars contain refined sugar, cane sugar, sugar alcohols, dairy, palm oil, gluten, or soy. They are flavored with unrefined coconut sugar, and most of them have fewer than eight grams of that healthy sweetener!

Because there are no dairy products in these dark chocolate bars, they are all certified vegan. And don’t think that this dark chocolate will produce that typical bitter taste you may be used to. That’s because they’re made with organic house-ground cacao to deliver a rich cocoa flavor.

The reviews on Hu Kitchen dark chocolate are overwhelmingly positive. Here’s a typical example from the official website:

Over the moon in love with this bar. Cocoa ground by HU and perfected in the healthiest chocolate bar I can find. No soy! That says a lot.

THIS is what chocolate is all about! It’s as though HU invented chocolate.

Snacks

Hunks

Hunks are chocolate-covered, bite-sized snacks. The combination of cashews and vanilla bean chocolate combine to produce a treat for the taste buds that is totally healthy and completely guilt free. The organic cashew nuts are covered in 70% dark chocolate made from organic cacao. There are no unrefined sugars, soy, or dairy in these snacks. They’re also vegan and paleo friendly.

Protein balls are another healthy snack option.

Gems

Hu Chocolate Gems are bite-sized cubes of Hu’s original healthy chocolate. This chocolate is made fresh, which makes it ideal for melting, baking, or drizzling on fruit. Chocolate gems will solidify after cooling or being refrigerated, making them perfect for baking.

Crackers

Hu Grain Free Crackers finally delivers a great tasting cracker option for the gluten- and grain-free community. In addition to being free of gluten and grains, there is no sunflower oil, lecithin/gums, vegetable oils, tapioca, dairy/soy, refined starches, or maltodextrin. They’ve only got nine grams of net carbs per serving.

These light and crispy snacks are perfect for dipping or just eating by themselves.

Summary

Hu Kitchen Healthy Snacks have filled a void in the market for a complete range of snack foods that are both healthy and delicious. Built around their famous blend of gluten free chocolate, Hu is a winner on every score. Highly recommended.
